I recently moved into a shipping container home that has been in my family for more than 15 years. I have to admit that it’s been a struggle to stay motivated to keep up the upkeep, but we’re slowly getting over our fears that the home will have to be torn down and demolished when you finally move into your next home.
The only problem right now is that the home is in the middle of the great lakes, so you can’t see it from the road or from a plane. In addition, the area is so remote that you can’t even call the home office if you’re on business. This means that you have to be physically present at the home. You have to keep the entire house running 24/7.
There are hundreds of homes in this area that are currently empty because they are not being kept up. So many homes are being torn down that there is a real shortage of homes in this area that can be taken care of for new homes. This is why you have to make sure you can haul the home yourself when your family moves in.

In reality that home would only be worth $200k because you would need to pay a lot of taxes and fees. It is also more expensive to live in a shipping container because the cost of electricity, water, and sewer are not included in the price.
Yes, you can buy a new home on the cheap. In fact, if you live in a state that is in the process of building a new home, you may be able to get a home for as little as 300k. Or, if you live in a state that is actually building a new home, you can take advantage of the fact that there is no real estate taxes or fees.
In the U.S., the cost of new construction is typically a major reason that people choose to live in single-family homes rather than in a traditional home. And it is, in fact, cheaper to buy a new home in the U.S. than in other countries. But because of the way homes are taxed, it is quite possible to take advantage of that fact and get a very cheap new home in a foreign country.

You can do this because the government has set up rules that allow all sorts of home customizations. In many countries, especially Canada, U.K.
The problem is the Canadian rules allow a maximum of two bedrooms with a total of six bathrooms for the lot. That’s a lot of space, and it’s impossible to find a home that fits that mold. We’re talking about a two bedroom standard, which is a lot of space you could use for a family and also a lot of expense.
The standard for single-family homes is to have one bedroom and a half baths, which is exactly the max you can do legally in Canada. This is a problem because the housing market in the US is much more restrictive and there are plenty of lots that fit that mold.
