We’ve all been there. You look at a room and think, “This is nice and clean, but why did we have to spend so much money on the whole room?” Then you look at it and think, “I guess we spent so much money on that one wall that we didn’t need to spend the other one.
The key to a great remodel is to have the time, money, and resources to do all the hard work of taking a room from a space that is already wonderful to one that looks great and is not expensive to do. We all know a room that is a disaster and we only wish we could spend even more money on it. So the first thing we do is see what our budget for the room is.
First off, we divide up the room into one-by-one categories of how much money we have left after we spent so much on it, how much we want to keep, and how much we need to bring in. Then we make a list of the things we’d like to change in our room, and how much we would need to make the change.
The big thing we all want to do is eliminate our clutter. We want to take the room we have and make it something that we love. But after the majority of the tasks are figured out, we also want to make sure that we have all of the items on the list that we want to keep.
After we have identified what we want to keep, we are left with figuring out how to bring in that room. It’s a lot easier if you know what you want to keep out and how you want to move stuff into it. You can see what’s out there right now and work with it.
What I have experienced is that there are always items that are out there that we just don’t know how to deal with. The task that I’ve done in my own home right now is a bit of a mess, but I think I’m ready to tackle it. I’m taking a bit of a detour through the city to find the best place to remove the things that are out there.
I have had my own home remodeling project done. The process was not very daunting, but I do have a lot of things that I don’t know how to do and that I have a lot of questions. To me it is a lot easier to not know what you’re doing, to have someone else take control of the project, and to be more aware of what is out there.
The direct home remodeling process is not really something that is covered in our course. I have known about it for a while, but I didn’t know how to do it. I think that this is a lot of what it will take to get me to the point where I can get into it, and I think that it is something that is going to be a lot less painful than I thought.
Now after the first couple of days of the course, I know that I have no idea what I will be doing if I am to be a successful home remodeler. I guess I will just have to work through it. It is like a movie that we will watch with some of the characters that we know and some new ones. It is like we are in the middle of an episode and we know the end is coming and we are just waiting to find out what happens next.
